Apply advanced scientific judgement combined with integrated evidence based practice to make complex scientific decisions in support of the high level clinical services performed at Princess Alexandra Hospital.
Collaborate closely with the Supervising Scientist, General Haematology, and the Advanced Scientist, Coagulation, on matters of testing, quality, validations, technical, scientific, staffing and training.
Key competencies (role specific criteria)
You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:
- Demonstrated high level of scientific knowledge and skill in Haematology and an ability to apply advanced scientific judgement within a haematology laboratory including coagulation.
- Demonstrated independent application of scientific expertise to lead service quality and improvements in haematology practices and contribute to training and technical competency activities.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively by utilising interpersonal skills to build and maintain professional relationships with clients and colleagues and to align a team and influence the culture.
- Demonstrated high level knowledge of quality control monitoring and maintenance of quality management systems in accordance with relevant legislative and professional standards, and to NATA/ISO accreditation/certification.
- Demonstrated ability to solve and investigate complex scientific problems.
Qualifications, registrations and other requirements
- The successful applicant must hold a relevant degree in science or equivalent from a recognised University or other tertiary institution. A degree in Medical Laboratory Science would be considered preferrable. As this is a senior scientific position the incumbent will have considerable demonstrated high-level experience in a clinical haematology laboratory.
- Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and/or registration with the appropriate registration authority, including any necessary endorsements, to be provided to the employing service prior to the commencement of service.
