The Company
Our client is a Melbourne-based joint venture dedicated to identifying and supporting the translation of promising research. In combination with their highly experienced internal team, they draw on expertise and guidance from industry leaders to help drive the translation of biomedical discoveries, and overall growth of the local and national biotech sector.
The Role
Reporting to the Associate Director of Small Molecule Therapeutics, you will be involved in the evaluation, management, and development of our client’s project portfolio. A key focus will be project managing outsourced research in early-stage drug discovery, including:
- Managing research activities undertaken by CROs and University Research Groups.
- Demonstrate and apply medicinal chemistry expertise to support early-stage drug discovery, including druggability assessments, developing Hit Identification strategies, and driving SAR activities towards a defined Target Compound Profile (TCP).
- Prepare project presentations and reports, maintain project tracking documents and meeting record keeping in compliance with company quality and data management systems.
- Support the development, execution, and management of project development plans.
- Develop and maintain a close working relationship with other project team members, consultants, University Research Groups, CROs, and University BD/TTO professionals.
- PhD in organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry, or related field and at least three years’ experience conducting postdoctoral research in synthetic and/or medicinal chemistry.
- Excellent understanding and technical knowledge of synthetic chemistry methods, such as MS, HPLC, and NMR, including the analysis and interpretation of data generated using these methods.
- Experience in medicinal chemistry is desirable and highly regarded.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to independently organise various tasks and activities.
- Demonstrated ability to manage others (e.g. CROs) and successfully deliver high-quality research outputs.
- Strong communication and presentation skills with a track record of presenting data to diverse audiences.
- A genuine enthusiasm for medicinal chemistry, eagerness to learn, and a strong desire to contribute towards science that will have a commercial impact.
