Job description

Synchro partners is working with a leading large enterprise. Due to team growth, we are seeking a Senior Security Systems Engineer.

The role revolves around deploying, administering and configuring security technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to and develop strategic plans for deploying new IT Security technologies, ensuring information security threats are identified and mitigated.
  • Lead and oversee the implementation of network security infrastructure, security controls, and tools in alignment with major organizational policies, objectives, and strategies.
  • Develop and implement security automation capabilities by promoting the use of code and establishing standard baselines to follow.
  • Lead and manage administrative activities for firewalls, VPNs, Web Application Firewalls, Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) systems, and Network Security Technologies.
  • Oversee and manage the investigation and response to alerts and indicators of compromise with appropriate levels of reporting.
  • Direct junior team members in the ongoing management of security-related technologies and serve as an escalation point.
  • Stay proactive in maintaining knowledge of Monash University’s network, emerging security and network technologies, and their associated vulnerabilities, providing input into the IT risk management program.
  • Develop and mentor team members to ensure their skill sets in IT security technologies are current, providing continuity for an on-call roster.
  • Develop and maintain strong partnerships with special interest groups in industry, government, and other universities.
Key Requirements:
  • Postgraduate qualifications and extensive, relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training (including industry IT
  • Security certifications
  • Extensive specialized technical security skills in securing enterprise environments.
  • Proven experience managing Windows and Linux environments.
  • Significant experience with TCP/IP and networking equipment, such as switches, routers (Cisco), firewalls (Palo Alto Networks), and cloud security tools like Palo Alto Networks Prisma Cloud.
  • Ability to read and analyze TCP/IP packets.
  • Superior experience with process automation using scripting languages.
  • Exceptional ability to identify and respond to IT security incidents.
  • Highly developed analytical and conceptual skills, including the demonstrated ability to quickly assimilate new concepts and information and deliver positive, innovative solutions.
  • High-level project management skills, with a record of successfully coordinating and/or supporting projects through to completion in accordance with agreed standards, timeframes, and budgets, is desirable.
