About your role

As a Senior Software Engineer at Harrison.ai, you will develop software systems to support AI model development and deployment across the Harrison.ai group of companies. You will work in a cross-functional team alongside AI Engineers and Clinical Experts, producing high-quality and well-tested code that helps bring our clinical AI models to production use.

Your role will focus on the efficient collection, processing, storage and delivery of the medical imaging data and associated labels that form the raw inputs for model development. From working with the low-level details of proprietary image file formats, to scaling the throughput of image conversation pipelines in the cloud, to collaborating on the design of new labelling protocols, you will help ensure that our AI Engineers have fast and effective access to the petabyte-scale data needed to power world-leading medical AI models.

At Harrison.ai we take pride in pushing technical boundaries and finding solutions for often loosely defined problems.  As a team we constantly look to improve upon our practices and processes, with a strong emphasis on introspection, open feedback and continuous improvement. We’re looking for a capable problem solver who is keen to continue growing their Software Engineering skills, while learning more about AI and making a positive impact on people’s lives.

What you'll do:
    • Develop high-quality software for the Data Pipelines, services and APIs that support AI model development and deployment at Harrison.ai and its partners,
    • Work predominantly in Rust, while using Python to interface with the broader ML tooling ecosystem.
    • Liaise with our healthcare data partners to coordinate, execute and debug the transfer of large de-identified medical imaging datasets,
    • Work effectively in cross-functional squads that include AI Engineers, DevOps Engineers and Clinical experts,
    • Follow agile methodology and Software Engineering best practices, including rapid prototyping, validation and iteration, effective testing and documentation, and
    • Work within the highly regulated environment of medical device development and sensitive data storage.
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience in a product-oriented environment,
  • Experience building and deploying software atop Amazon Web Services, particularly using data-related services like S3, Glue, or Athena,
  • Experience building services, libraries, and APIs in Python,
  • Comfortable working with byte-level data structure specifications, such as binary file formats or networking protocols,
  • Some exposure to developing in Rust, and
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Experience developing in Rust,
  • Familiarity with medical imaging file formats such as DICOM or WSI,
  • Experience with machine learning and MLOps,
  • Familiarity with git, GitHub, and GitHub Actions CI/CD workflows,
  • Familiarity with containerised deployments and microservices architecture, and
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code technologies such as terraform.
