About the role
The Senior Speech Pathologist role will support individuals with diverse communication needs and disabilities through comprehensive assessments, including physical, psychosocial and forensic assessment alongside physical and communication assessments. You are required to prepare detailed reports to guide personalised treatment plans and strategies, while also training staff in effective communication techniques and providing support workers and caregiver training in speech and language development.
Additionally, the role involves conducting swallowing and mealtime assessments, designing meal plans, and recommending augmentative and alternative communication technologies (AT). Collaborating closely with multidisciplinary teams, the Senior Speech Pathologist ensures integrated care and client-centered outcomes, ultimately enhancing independence and improving the overall quality of life for individuals under their care.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a growing team of Speech Pathologists.
- Drive Crescent Respite’s strategic goals for excellence in Speech Pathology and Allied Health.
- Evaluate and diagnose speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders.
- Treat speech, language, communication, and swallowing disorders.
- Provide training and education to family/caregivers and other professionals.
- Collaborate with professionals from various disciplines.
- Deliver evidence-based, person-focused, and family-centered assessments and interventions aligned with NDIS plans.
- Prepare evidence-based Speech Pathology reports, case notes, and progress updates for NDIA compliance.
- Operate within a fee-for-service delivery model, ensuring adherence to therapy service requirements.
- Provide clinical supervision for new Speech Pathology team members.
- Liaise with relevant professionals, networks, and services to coordinate effective case management and collaboration for positive participant and family outcomes.
Selection Criteria
- Minimum 5 years’ post qualifying professional practice.
- Experience and knowledge of working effectively and safely with people living with disability and mental health issues.
- Extensive experience in the provision of person-centred disability services and high-level knowledge and understanding of the NDIS quality framework required in Disabilities.
- Advanced clinical skills in the assessment and development of interventions for people with disability.
- Leadership and senior management experience, including staff, financial and change management and effective resource management.
- Willing to travel to STA, MTA, SIL & SDA houses and respite facilities across Melbourne
Mandatory Requirements
- Bachelor or master’s degree in Speech Pathology
- NDIS Screen Check (willing to obtain one)
- Satisfactory National Police Check (willing to obtain one)
- Victorian Working with Children Check (willing to obtain one)
- Victorian Driver’s Licence
- Valid Practising Membership
- Successful completion of the NDIS Worker Orientation Module
- Advanced clinical skills in the assessment and development of interventions for people with disability
