The Role

Due to the ongoing growth of our Personal Tax and Accounting team, we have a rare opportunity for a Senior Accountant to join our firm’s South Brisbane and Sherwood offices. This role will involve extensive client relationship management and, in collaboration with partners, client managers, and accountants, provide compliance and accounting services to a portfolio of clients that operate across multiple professions and industries. This position will require attendance at both office locations for face-to-face meetings with clients and client advisers.

Key Responsibilities

• Preparing financial statements, income tax returns, and business activity statements for all entities including companies, trusts, partnerships and individuals, and other statutory compliance.
• Mentoring and reviewing work of junior accountants.
• Assisting clients with a range of taxation matters, including (but not limited to) FBT, CGT, income tax, and GST.
• Meeting with clients and client advisers, managing client queries and engagements.
• Building and developing strong client relationships, as well as providing additional value services.
• Facilitating collaboration between the MGD Sherwood office and other business units at the MGD South Brisbane office – Wealth Management Advisory, Risk and Succession Advisory, and Superannuation Accounting and Advisory. 

About You

• You are a team player who is self-motivated, proactive, and leads by example.
• You highly value your professional standing with your clients, peers, and direct reports.
• You ideally have a minimum of five years’ experience within an Australian accounting practice.
• You will have a Business or Commerce Degree (majoring in Accounting).
• CA or CPA qualification is desirable or ability to work towards this. 
• Have gained experience working with a diverse range of clients.
• Display demonstrated ownership of your duties and client tasks, exhibiting a high level of attention to detail and accuracy and, crucially, an ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks. 
• Have excellent time management skills and the ability to work to deadlines.
• Are experienced with Xero software, including Xero Practice Manager (XPM).
• Have strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Are equipped with the technical knowledge and skills to work autonomously.
