Senior Town Planner Needed

Your new role
The key function of the role is to perform the statutory functions and duties of a Local Government Town Planner as required.
Undertake efficient, accurate and timely assessments of planning applications to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and Council Policy whilst achieving good quality outcomes for the municipality.
Prepare, implement and review strategic planning documents as directed by the City Development Manager.
Provide professional advice to employees, councillors, applicants and other external parties on planning matters.
Mentor junior employees and contribute to the continuous improvement of the planning team by enhancing current systems, and, where necessary, developing new systems and managing changes.
Representing the Council at community forums and planning bodies such as the Tasmanian Civil and Administrative Tribunal and the Tasmanian Planning Commission are required.
What you'll need to succeed
Demonstrated experience in managing and assessing complex planning applications, including liaising with stakeholders and representing an application in a formal hearing.
Excellent time management skills with the ability to plan, organise and manage my own time to achieve targets
Demonstrated ability to undertake and complete strategic planning studies and projects.
Highly developed customer service skills including conflict resolution, problem-solving and negotiation skills
Highly developed report writing skills and the ability to prepare and facilitate presentations with advanced communication skills
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
A relevant tertiary qualification in Urban and Regional Planning or equivalent discipline
Postgraduate industry experience – preferably in local government.
Current 'C' class driving licence

Annual leave: employees are entitled to 4 weeks (pro rata for part-time employees) annual leave per year, plus leave loading.
Personal leave (for sick and carer’s leave): employees are entitled to two weeks (pro rata for part-time employees) personal leave per year, if they are unable to attend work due to personal illness/injury or to provide care for a spouse/partner or immediate family member.
Paid parental leave: employees are entitled to fourteen weeks paid (or twenty-eight weeks at half-pay) parental/adoption leave for the primary carer; two weeks paid leave for the secondary carer.
Long Service Leave: Long service leave applies after 7 years of continuous service.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
