Job Opportunity:
Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for a Senior/Underwriter to join our team in our Melbourne office. This position is a great fit for an experienced underwriter looking to expand their responsibilities and underwriting knowledge and grow a book of business. We are seeking an individual who is hard working, team oriented, passionate, and always striving towards excellence. The candidate must be able to learn new products and have the ability to work both independently and to collaborate with all levels and all disciplines.
Duties & Responsibilities:
• Develop and build the Marine book of business with a focus on Ocean Cargo and Stock Throughput coverages
• Establish, develop, and expand broker and customer relationships, working independently and in conjunction with other BHSI product lines
• Prequalify accounts, utilising underwriting acumen to select property risks within company’s risk appetite
• Underwrite, grow the book of business and manage risk for complex accounts
• Work in a fast-paced environment, multi-task, and make quick decisions while maintaining underwriting integrity

• Work closely with our in-house claims team to help create a positive and transparent experience for our customers
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
• At least 5 years insurance experience
• Cargo underwriting and appetite experience strongly preferred
• Strong existing broker relationships or proven ability to develop strong relationships
• Strong underwriting acumen
• Experience marketing to specialized brokers
• Proven client development experience
• Basic understanding of CAT peril modeling/pricing
• Strong collaboration and team building skills
• Must be entrepreneurial and a self-starter
• Strong communication skills including advanced negotiation, communications, and presentation experience
• Bachelor’s degree preferred
