In partnership with the Australia Defence Force, we are seeking a SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environmental and Quality) Manager to join the team supporting the Energy Solutions line of business within our Defence & Social Infrastructure contract.

Reporting to the SHEQ Business Manager, you will partner with contract team and contractors within their designated area and jurisdiction as required, providing leadership, advice and support for compliance and operational excellence in health, safety, environmental quality for all phases of the contract scope (design, construct, commission and maintenance).

The role will also provide technical capability to drive the development, implementation and continual improvement of the Integrated Management System to meet legal, contractual, and other business requirements and Office of Federal Safety Commission (OFSC) fundamental requirements and guidelines.

This is a permanent full time role and can be based in Melbourne or Sydney with flexibility to work from home.

As the Defence site is located in Mulwala, NSW, travel will be required.

As a SHEQ Professional, you will be responsible for:

  • Managing the implementation of SHEQ Management Plans across contract.
  • Ensuring compliance with legislations, regulations, and standards and that all activities on the project are undertaken in a safe manner, and with the application of suitable frameworks and documentation.
  • Undertake, or lead, investigations in relation to safety related incidents or issues and provide recommendations through the contract and business line leadership team.
  • Support and partner with operations for delivering adequate SHEQ design, construction and commissioning risk workshops and the execution of work inline with the methodology.
  • Implementing processes to ensure communication and compliance with all SHEQ policies and procedures including fostering a culture of 'safety and health above all else.
  • Coach and mentor operational staff and contractors alike in the development and application of their Health, Safety, Environment and Quality obligations and requirements.

About you:

  • Tertiary Qualification in Workplace/ Occupation Health and Safety, Environmental or equivalent.
  • Formal training in incident investigation (ICAM)
  • Management Systems and Lead Auditor qualifications
  • Have suitable experience as a safety professional in industrial safety on a full-time basis for at least 5 years and possess the required technical skills and knowledge to perform the role.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse and interpret procedures to suit plant and equipment and the working environment based on risk management processes and principles.
  • Significant exposure to green / brown field construction and commissioning environments.
  • High level of understanding and managing of contractor workforces under OFSC.
  • Demonstrated senior leadership experience in safety / environment / quality or relevant industry role
