The Role
Ventia are currently seeking expressions of interest for a SHEQ Manager for an upcoming project. The successful incumbent with be responsible for all aspects of Safety, Health and Environment and Quality of the Contract.

The responsibilities of the position include but not limited to:

  • Ensure effective implementation of procedures and practices which comply with Australian Standards and relevant legislation / regulations, and to ensure the Operations team is characterised by a Safe Working Culture
  • Lead the Safety and Environment Team to effectively provide effective and efficient Safety and Environmental Management
  • Ensure all activities on the project are undertaken in a safe manner, and with the application of suitable frameworks and documentation in accordance with legislation and regulations
  • Undertake, or lead, investigations in relation to Safety related incidents or issues and provide recommendations to Operations
  • Maintain a ‘Safe Working Culture’ on the Contract through ongoing active engagement and education of leaders and the workforce
  • Instil a proactive can-do attitude and positive team culture within the Operations team
  • Oversee employee rehabilitation, including Return to Work planning
  • Maintain effective record management in relation to Safety, Health and Environment activities
  • Escalate and report incidents /issues as per Ventia framework
  • Foster a positive working relationship with client, and escalate/report issues as per agreed framework
  • Review Safety Reporting actively identifying areas of increased incident / risk, provide solutions / recommendations to Project Manager to address

Education and Qualifications: 

  • Tertiary Qualification in Workplace/ Occupation Health and Safety, Environmental or Quality Equivalent 
  • Formal training in incident investigation 
  • Management Systems and Lead Auditor Qualifications 

Technical Competencies: 

  • Have suitable experience as a safety professional in industrial safety and possess the required technical skills and knowledge to perform the role. 
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships and a positive team culture  
  • Experience in managing safety audit programs to ensure effective system compliance 
  • Ability to implement and manage a collaborative workplace culture 

Skills & Experience: 
Demonstrated senior leadership experience in safety / environment / quality or relevant industry role 
Demonstrated understanding of contractual KPI’s Demonstrated commitment to HS&E through behaviours, visible and
accountable leadership and participation in monitoring of established working practices 
Detailed knowledge of SHEQ legislation, regulatory requirements and ISO standards within a utility or infrastructure project environment 
Ability to develop and execute strategies to ensure compliance, minimise risk and drive continuous improvement.
