Reporting to Head of Operations the Site Operations and HSE Lead is accountable for managing, coordinating and monitoring Site Operations, providing HSE support, advice and assistance and managing the implementation of safety controls for work in the Northern Territory.

The scope for this position covers:

  • Site maintenance, works programs, equipment, facilities and health and safety

  • Key Deliverables

    Site Operations

  • Site operations: Manage maintenance and works programs, housekeeping, equipment and facilities, health and safety, risk, controls, security and access (visitors, employees and contractors).
  • Works obligations: Manage and maintain site works obligations, including permit requirements, stakeholder commitments, legal requirements and other relevant obligations.
  • Contractors: Manage contractors, including onboarding and offboarding processes, work activities and schedules, risk controls, permits (where required), access, and completion. Inspect and sign off on milestones and deliverables. Support procurement and finance activities, including purchase orders and invoicing.
  • Work Program: Develop and manage work program for equipment and assets with the NT Operations Manager, to maximise access to and works on-site during the dry season.
  • Field activities and Surveys: Manage field activities and surveys, including safe access to the rail corridor.
  • Vehicles: Manage vehicles and equipment, including servicing, repairs, and registration.
  • Stakeholder engagement: Promote positive and productive relationships with stakeholders, including government, local community members, pastoralists, and relevant Land Councils.
  • Health, Safety and Environment

  • Support and assistance: Provide support to the team and contractors in managing work and controls to reduce the risk of harm to people, plant, environment and cultural heritage.
  • HSE System Implementation: Manage the implementation and use of the HSE system on-site and across the business, including hazard identification, controls and risk mitigation, contractor management, reporting, incident management and reporting, emergency response and management, and compliance with system, legislation, and regulations
  • Safety operations: Work with the NT Operations Manager to embed safety in operations
  • Administration: Manage H&S records and documentation.
  • Compliance: Provide safety inspection and assurance process including, internal and contractor audits and assessments; monitor H&S legislation and regulations, and provide updates on changes and impact on business.
  • Other projects as required
  • Experience 

  • Managed all aspects of an operating site including works, works programs, contractors, facilities, and maintenance.
  • Managed or participated in Emergency Response activities.
  • Managed access or work activities within the rail corridor.
  • Managed and provided health and safety support and services to operating businesses, ideally in remote or challenging work environments.
  • Developed and managed risk registers, plans, and programs; demonstrated experience working with operating businesses to identify and manage health and safety risks to reduce the risk of harm.
  • Managed contractor safety, including system, documentation, controls, hazard identification, risk management, compliance and non-compliance.
  • Experience in procedure development, worked collaboratively with operating businesses to establish procedures aligned to operating needs.
  • Experience with safety and incident reporting, trend analysis, with demonstrated improvement in safety outcomes.
  • Has advised and sourced information from relevant Workplace Health and Safety Acts and Regulations and relevant codes of practice.
  • Worked with people to embed safety in culture.
  • Education/Qualifications 

  • Diploma or Certificate in Health & Safety or similar qualification
  • Certificate Investigation and Auditing desirable.
  • Diploma or trade background desirable.
  • Valid driver’s licence (extensive road travel is required in the role) 
  • IMPORTANT INFORMATION 

    This role will require regular travel via vehicle to the Barkly Region. Accomodation and meal allowances will be provided.
