Job description

The Small Business Mentor position will be responsible for assisting participants through their Self-Employment Assistance journey, delivering training and Business Mentoring services. The successful candidate will also assist participants to complete the nationally recognised accredited qualification. They will develop and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders from within the Small Business eco-system to provide a positive user experience for their participants.

About the role

The role of Small Business Mentor is to manage progress and support Self-Employment Assistance participants to undertake and complete Small Business Training. To provide one on one mentoring to participants to support them to achieve successful outcomes in the Small Business Coaching stage of Self-Employment Assistance. To develop Business Plans with participants ensuring all requirements as outlined within the Workforce Australia Deed are met.

This role will require occasional travel to Alice Springs.

The successful applicant is to proactively report to and brief the Program Manager Self-Employment Assistance on performance and current and emerging issues and /or potential risks to the business, including presenting solutions to avoid risk. To maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders that ensure a sustainable and professional partnership always remains. Develop and manage appropriate relationships across Government Departments, client groups, providers and community stakeholders, and Industry associations to actively promote and secure business growth and employment for My Pathway’s Self-Employment Assistance services.

What you’ll need to be considered

Essential

  • Experience in the planning, development, implementation, operation, and evaluation of businesses.
  • Previous Small Business owner.
  • Experienced mentor of Small Business operators.
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Working knowledge of IT systems, online reporting, and file management within Microsoft Office

 business applications.

  • Highly developed verbal and written communication skills, including exceptional interpersonal skills

which encourage and promote the participation of others.

  • Effective time management skills.
  • Strong organisation and attention to detail skills.
  • Must be service driven with a commitment to excellence in customer service.
  • Creative problem solver and highly adaptable.
  • Experience in working in collaboration with a range of service providers, community groups and

individuals.

Knowledge of vocational/educational and training (VET) concepts.

  • Sound knowledge of the local labour market.
  • Current drivers’ licence.

Ability to Obtain

  • Current trainer/assessor qualifications and experience delivering accredited training in Certificate III

or Certificate IV in Entrepreneurship and New Business (or equivalent).

  • Police clearance (or ability to obtain).
  • Working with Children Card
