Orora is pleased to announce a further ~$85 million capacity expansion for its cans business, to increase can body capacity at the Revesby, NSW site. As a SME (Subject Matter Expert) Mechanical Fitter, you will play a pivotal role in our operations, contributing to the success and growth of our site and company.
The Role
Reporting to the Engineering Lead, this is a newly created role. The SME Fitter will possess a strong background in mechanical fitting, coupled with expertise in troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of machinery and equipment. The SME will be responsible for ensuring the smooth functioning of our mechanical systems, minimizing downtime, and optimizing productivity.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducting preventive maintenance tasks on machinery and equipment according to established schedules.
- Performing troubleshooting and diagnostic assessments to identify mechanical issues.
- Repairing or replacing defective components to restore equipment functionality.
- Installing new machinery and equipment as needed.
- Collaborating with other team members to ensure efficient operations and timely resolution of issues.
- Maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities and equipment performance.
- Adhering to safety protocols and regulations.
What We’re Looking For
• Technical Expertise – Preferably should have a deep understanding of the can making processes. They should have an intimate knowledge of specific equipment along with the ability to understand and diagnose problems.
• Quality Control - This includes monitoring product quality at various stages of production, conducting inspections, and implementing corrective actions when necessary to maintain consistent quality standards.
• Communication & Problem-Solving – Excellent Communicator with flair to resolve complex issues, should be able to quickly identify problems, analyse root causes, and implement effective solutions to minimize downtime and ensure productivity.
• Continuous Learning Adaptability & Networking- Should have a mindset of continuous learning and be willing to adapt to changes in the industry to remain competitive. SMEs should have the ability to make strong connections with industry equipment manufacturers to ensure they are up to date with new ideas, technologies and best practices.
• Attention to Detail - Should have a keen eye for detail and be meticulous in their approach to monitoring processes, conducting inspections, and following protocols.
• Leadership and Collaborative Teamwork - Strong leadership skills, motivator and fostering a collaborative work environment focused on achieving productivity goals.
• Industry Experience – Preferably have a solid background in food processing or high-speed manufacturing environment ideally with specific experience in canning operations.
