Job description

The Museum has an exciting opportunity for a communications professional to join the Communications, Marketing and Public Affairs Unit as an APS6 Social Media Manager, to develop, implement and manage content on the Museum’s Social Media channels.

This position is responsible for the overall strategy and daily organisation and management of the Museum’s Social Media accounts. The successful candidate will have workplace experience in using Social Media as a professional promotional tool and proven experience in integrating Social Media into broader workplace communications activities. The successful candidate will demonstrate creative and well-documented engagement in professional Social Media use. The successful candidate will work with colleagues across the Museum to identify Social Media promotional opportunities; develop and post content; moderate conversation on the Social Media channels; monitor, analyse and report on the Museums’ Social Media channels; and oversee Social Media training within the organisation as required. The successful candidate will be a self-starter, work well in a team, be creative, a strong multi-tasker, have demonstrated high level writing and communications skills, a demonstrated ability manage complex communications issues, and will work efficiently under pressure and to tight deadlines. 

Responsibilities of the position include:

• Developing, implementing and managing a ‘whole of Museum’ Social Media strategy and specific campaign strategies.

• Developing, implementing and managing Social Media campaigns for the whole of Museum, including: temporary exhibitions, permanent galleries, public programs and events.

• Sourcing, developing and publishing content for Social Media channels.

• Developing and implementing paid Social Media campaigns that grow and engage the museums Social Media audience

• Developing Social Media scheduling and being the portal for Social Media messaging.

• Managing online reputational issues.

• Using Social Media analytics, monitoring and reporting tools.

• Following Social Media trends in order to embrace new developments and opportunities.

• Providing training as required.

• Mediating Social Media conversations.

• Identifying, managing and negotiating opportunities with key internal and external stakeholders.

• Evaluating and reporting on Social Media activities and outcomes.

• Managing the Social Media budget.

• Have a preparedness to work outside standard business hours, to monitor Social Media as required.

1. Proven skills in managing Social Media platforms and their application to develop, increase and maintain national audiences, and communities of shared interest.

2. Proven experience in developing and implementing successful Social Media communications campaigns.

3. Demonstrated experience in applying strong communication, writing and editing skills in Social Media and an ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.

4. Demonstrated experience in using initiative and creativity to achieve organisational strategic goals, by leveraging Social Media algorithms and tools.

5. Demonstrated ability to use digital applications as an effective business tool, and to adapt to new online opportunities and challenges on Social Media.

6. Demonstrated understanding, or willingness to develop an understanding, of the issues affecting Australian First Nations peoples in the application of your work.
