The Department
The Patient and Family Services Social Work Department operates in accordance with the philosophy and goals of The Alfred. A focus on quality of life and participation in care is a primary goal of the Department. Social Work aims to identify and address the psychosocial impacts of illness and hospitalisation for patients and their families by providing a range of services which increase quality of life and participation in care. Social Work also assists patients and their families with a smooth transition from hospital to home.
The Position Summary
The Social Worker is responsible for the provision of social work services to patients and their families/significant others within the Social work department. The Alfred is home to Australia’s busiest trauma centre and one of the largest and most advanced intensive care units (ICU) in the Southern Hemisphere and Alfred Health also delivers numerous community-based programs and 18 state-wide services. This role will work in the Trauma Social work service covering both Trauma and Neurosurgery. Flexibility to work within any of the units covered by the Social work service is essential, as is regular participation in the Department’s Priority System. An advanced knowledge of Acute Hospital systems is essential for this role.
Skills and Qualifications Required
Eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers
Bachelor of Social Work, or recognised equivalent
Experience in an acute or sub-acute hospital setting is preferable
This position may be required to work at any or all campuses of Alfred Health as and when required
A demonstrated knowledge of working in a Trauma unit will be essential to this role
Demonstrated expert knowledge in Social Work theory and practice skills will be crucial
Advanced Information technology skills and an advanced understanding of working within an Electronic medical record
Experience in working in a Trauma unit will be advantageous to this role
