About the role

The role of the Software Engineer is to contribute to the strong testing culture in product and platforms team. This includes participating in the cross functional digital agile delivery process for web sites, applications and services in the technology team. Carrying out duties across requirements capture, testing, delivery and support. The primary function being tight collaboration with product team and engineering teams forming test cases and executing these to verify adequate quality.

Duties

• Define test documentation and test cases as required to effectively measure the quality of product. User Stories are accurate, logically split into tasks and fully identify the feature or situation in a testable way with a consistent format for cross functional teams to follow. 
• Contribute to scrum delivery activities including stand-up, estimation, elaboration, review, retro, continuous improvement and reporting. Contribute to effective communication between business product and technical Delivery. Provide 2nd level support as a subject matter expert in digital products. Investigate bugs and issues found in test or reported by users.
• Analyse feature definitions and interpret requirements into test cases that the team can understand. Analyse incident data that may provide opportunities to increase testable areas of products.
• Create test cases that provide high test coverage.
• Prepare tests to execute test features in a reliable and pragmatic way. Perform other manual test activities as needed.
• Invest in professional development through regular learning opportunities to build on skills and knowledge and invest in personal development through wellbeing initiatives and taking regular leave to maintain a balanced life.

Skills and experience 

• 2+ years testing experience in Agile web product development environments 
• Experience using CI/CD tools.  
• Good knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, REST API web services. Knowledge of AWS EC2, ECS, Cloudfront, Route53 
• An understanding of SEO principles. 
• An exceptional eye for detail with all work. 
• A positive attitude to overcoming obstacles and getting results. 
• Strong analytical skills. 
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
• Experience facilitating scrum activities.

Desirable

• Experience with testing automation tools (Cypress, Chimp, Chimpy, Cucumber, Selenium)
• Tertiary digital design, product management or digital education
• Experience working in or with a media organisation.
• An interest in new and emerging digital product technologies.
• Experience with Docker, Linux
• Good knowledge of Git and basic coding practices.
