Automotive Electrician

Work Location: 

Fortescue’s Solomon mine is located on the traditional lands of the Eastern Guruma and Yindjibarndi peoples.

Roster: 

7D7N14R FIFO ex. Perth, Busselton, Karratha

Fortescue is seeking qualified and experienced Automotive Electricians.

You will be required to carry out the safe execution of scheduled maintenance and repair to a range of large-scale mining equipment supporting Fortescue's mining operations. You will be responsible for carrying out repairs and inspections on mining fleet with particular focus on safety, quality, and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • The carrying out of maintenance and modifications required on high voltage electric drive haul trucks, excavators, and other mining equipment under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor and to the appropriate Australian and company standards and procedures.
  • Apply FMG electrical standards in accordance with the Mine plan, working within internal systems, to ensure adherence to established technical and operational standards. 
  • Provide support when required to the multi-disciplined services team, in accordance with internal systems and guidelines, to ensure achievement of production targets 
  • Install and configure hardware, electrical and network technology systems for a number of our mobile assets
  • Calibrate and commission the GPS and AHS systems on a number of different heavy and light mobile assets
  • Coach and develop employees within the Maintenance team on best practice for maintaining the HV Electrical & technology layer
  • Ensure setup of fleet management system is optimised to deliver maximum fleet efficiency and meet Mine Plan requirements
  • Undertake fault diagnosis and repairs on Liebherr, Caterpillar, Epiroc, Flanders technology products.
  • Ensure FMG and site operations procedures and policies are followed & aligned with statutory testing & inspections.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Australian recognised trade certificate – Cert III in Electrotechnology
  • West Australian A class Electrical licence & High voltage switching ticket desired 
  • Previous experience on a mine site (highly desirable)
  • High Risk Licences - EWP, Forklift, Working at Heights (desirable)
  • Valid first aid certificate - CPR and LVR in the last 12 months
  • Demonstrated windows-based IT systems knowledge and understanding of networking principles
  • Experience working in a heavy mobile mining environment on related base machine or technology layer. Electrical heavy mobile equipment experience, specifically electrical excavators & electric haul trucks
  • Previous experience with Liebherr, Caterpillar MineStar products is preferred, with Command experience being desired
  • Ability to read and interpret electronic schematics and Technical Specifications
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and interpersonal)
