Provide counselling to CDU students and deliver initiatives to eliminate sexual assault on campus 

About the Position
As a Specialist Counsellor (safer communities), you will carry out functions related to intake, triage, and short-term counselling, and maintain a specialised focus in prevention and response activities related to students disclosing or reporting sexual assault or harassment, violence, or hazing. Taking responsibility for delivering initiatives as part of CDU’s response to eliminating sexual assault and sexual violence on campus via the Respect.Now.Always. campaign, you will work closely with the Associate Director, Student Support to respond to regular reporting requirements to the Australian Human Rights Commission. 

About You
To be successful, you will require:

  • Completion of a relevant degree (e.g. Psychology, Social Work, Counselling) and registration or eligibility for registration with the relevant Professional Association.
  • Extensive and diverse counselling experience along with highly developed interpersonal skills that include the ability to communicate effectively within a cross cultural environment comprising both students and staff in a tertiary education context.
  • Experience in the application of best practice approaches to working with people who engage in or impacted by inappropriate, offensive, or threatening behaviour, such as sexual assault, family violence, sexual harassment, discrimination, and bullying.
  • Act as first responder to reports of sexual assault and family violence (student) and assist in the management of incidents.
  • Demonstrated commitment towards maintaining high professional standards including the capacity to maintain client confidentiality and knowledge of the relevant legislation within which the University operates.
  • A capacity to work in an ethical and professional manner, working independently as well as part of a team.
  • Proficient in using a diverse range of computer software, including office management packages, and client management systems.
  • Ensure professional judgments are ethical and non-discriminatory adhering to relevant legislation, CDU policies and procedures and the relevant Professional Association guidelines for professional conduct.

Remuneration 
Appointment to this role will be at Professional level 7. The base salary will be in the range of $91,642 to $100,594 per annum. The total remuneration package will be in the range of $107,221 to $117,694 per annum, including 17% superannuation.
