Role Overview:

The Specialist DFSV Officer is part of the SydWest's Community Engagement Division and is responsible for providing case management support, predominantly in collaboration with mainstream services, to women from refugee and migrant background (and their children) who are residing in the Blacktown and Penrith LGAs who are fleeing Domestic, Family, and Sexual Violence. The role also builds the capacity of services and communities to understand and respond to DFSV within their sphere of influence, with particular regard to experiences of migrants and refugees. This position will be a fixed term part-time, 28 hours per week until 28 June 2024.
 

Key Accountabilities:

· Provide DFSV case management services for clients as part of an integrated and person-centred approach that prioritises the needs of victim survivors and their children.

· Provide DFSV case management services for clients based on an understanding of the gendered nature of Domestic, Family, and Sexual Violence.

· Establish and maintain effective referral pathways to specialised DFSV, emergency housing and legal services.

· Provide effective advocacy on behalf of clients and communities the role works with.

· Build the capacity of service providers to effectively respond to and understand migrant and refugees women's and their families' experience of DFSV.

· Work with communities to increase understanding of DFSV and gender equality, using primary prevention models and tools.

· Participate in appropriate interagency/networks related to DFSV, women and families.

· Provide a capacity building and practitioner role for the whole organisation and ensure internal procedures are reviewed and followed to safeguard those affected by DFSV

· Ensure confidentiality and privacy of client information at all levels of the organisation.

· Comply with all regulatory and organisational procedures, especially DFSV related legislation around confidentiality and reporting, if relevant.

· Participate in relevant research and evaluations related to this role including collection of data and providing case studies.

· Participate in appropriate interagencies/networks as directed by the CE Team: Women & families.

· Engage in relevant training and upgrade skills as needed.

· Undertake duties as required by the Community Services Manager/Team Leader: Women & Families.

· Ensure personal safety and have a positive attitude towards a work-life balance.
 

Essential Criteria (needs to be addressed on a separate document)

· Tertiary qualified with in Community Services/Human Services/Social Work or related area with 2 years' experience implementing Domestic Violence projects.

· Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the dynamics, complexities, and legal and social consequences of domestic violence, particularly in the context of multicultural work and sexual violence.

· Demonstrated experience undertaking community development initiatives.

· Knowledge and understanding of criminal justice systems, including the Child Protection system and issues.

· Experience providing effective, strength- based and person-centered services/programs clients.

· Excellent research and report writing skills, and are good at synthesising and presenting complex information.

· High level time-management and organisational skills, decision making and capacity to identify, initiate and successfully manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality products within agreed timeframes, with attention to detail.

· Demonstrated knowledge of challenges faced by refugee and migrant communities.

· High level interpersonal & communication skills.

· Demonstrated values of integrity, reliability, professionalism and a commitment to quality and continuous improvement.

· Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs.

· Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

· Current NSW drivers' licence and access to a fully comprehensive insured and registered vehicle

· Satisfactory National Police Check and Working with Children Check required.
