Specialist, Flight Dispatch

What you will be doing
The Specialist, Flight Dispatch, reports to the Flight Dispatch Manager and is responsible for supporting policy, procedure, and system-related functions within the Flight Dispatch and Virgin Australia Meteorological teams.
In this position, you will work closely with other Integrated Operations Centre (IOC) teams, Flight Operations, I.T, client airlines, and other industry stakeholders to retain regulatory and procedural compliance within Flight Dispatch, as well as optimise workflows to support the delivery of quality, effective, and efficient flight planning outcomes.
The role also works closely with Specialists in Navigation Support Services with managing the company's navigation databases and the assessment of prospective RPT and charter operations.
As a Specialist, Flight Dispatch you will be responsible for:

• Working closely with the Flight Dispatch Team Leads to collaboratively identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Supporting the Flight Dispatch team by ensuring all team members are equipped with the tools and knowledge applicable for their roles.
• Providing input on Flight Dispatch training material.
• Represent the Flight Dispatch team as a subject matter expert at internal strategy and discussion meetings.
• Liaise with external stakeholders (e.g. Airservices Australia) and service providers on key matters about Flight Dispatch operations.
• Actively manage and develop the strategic relationship with Virgin Australia's meteorological support services provider.
• Collaborate with other IOC teams as well as Flight Operations to ensure Virgin Australia is well represented and engaged in industry discussions and forums.
• Proactively issue operational notices to Flight Dispatch for all policy and procedure updates and maintain the integrity of Flight Dispatch policy.
• Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to support operational efficiency, safety and situational awareness.

What you need to be successful:

• In depth understanding of the principles of flight planning and aircraft performance.
• Demonstrated experience in supporting team members with technical knowledge of Flight Dispatch.
• Good understanding of both the broad and detailed objectives of the Flight Operations and IOC divisions.
• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Technical understanding of the Sabre FPM database and communication interfaces.

You'll be great in this role if you have:

• An understanding of Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) regulations
• Tertiary qualifications in Aviation and/or a pilot's license will be highly regarded.
• Demonstrated experience working in high-capacity airline logistics or similar environment.
• Demonstrated experience in interpreting complex technical issues and implementing safe and effective solutions.
• In-depth understanding of aviation meteorology.
