Specialist Mental Health Clinician - Perinatal and Infant Mental Health
Perinatal and Infant Mental Health (PIMHS) is a specialist perinatal Mental Health service for parents (and their infants) with a severe, acute, or complex mental illness, or who are at imminent risk of relapse/episode and who are pregnant or have a child under the age of two.
Our service provides time limited, intensive specialist Perinatal and Infant Mental Health support, through direct patient care or consultation for a range of severe or complex perinatal Mental Health disorders including severe depression and/or anxiety, postpartum psychosis, bipolar affective disorder, schizophrenia, complex trauma and personality disorders.
PIMHS works alongside the allocated Mental Health Clinician and collaboratively with adult and Infant/child health services to support care for both parent and Infant. PIMHS has a key role in establishing key care pathways and referrals to ongoing providers in the community.
The position has professional responsibility to the appropriate HNELHD Mental Health Head of Discipline and will be linked into discipline specific supervision and supports. You will also have the opportunity to be linked to the StateWide PIMHS clinicians – through the annual PIMHS Conference (Nov), and supported locally to engage in education opportunities specific to your role.
The opportunities available
We currently have two opportunities to join PIMHS;
- 24 hours per week (Permanent) for PIMHS Greater Newcastle – with the position to be at the Lake Macquarie Mental Health Team (Charlestown)
- 21 Hours per week (Temporary until December 2024) at Hunter Valley Mental Health Team (Maitland)

You have the ability to;
- Provide specialised support to parents and Infants experiencing acute Mental Health issues.

- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care.
- Utilise your expertise to enhance care pathways and support ongoing treatment.
- Commit to continuous professional development and best practices.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.

Alongside the multi-disciplinary clinical supports of the local Adult Mental Health Team including direct line management, you will also be supported by broader PIMHS HNE Team including a Perinatal Consultant Psychiatrist, CAMHS Special Program Coordinator and 5 other PIMHS Clinicians (via weekly PIMHS team meetings + supervision via telehealth).

Requirements
- Must hold a qualification in one of the following: Occupational Therapy, Clin Psychology/clin psych in training, Nursing, Social Work, Counsellor (Degree in Bachelor of Health Science Mental health,Djirruwang Program), which provides eligibility or membership of the relevant professional association general registration through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency. For a CNS2: relevant post-registration qualifications and at least 3 years experience working in the clinical area of a post-graduate qualification.
- Eligibility to drive in NSW and interstate and the willingness to travel in the course of employment.
