Job description

The role:

The Tasmanian Health Service is seeking a certified Radiation Oncology Medical Physicist to join our team in the Radiation Oncology unit of the Royal Hobart Hospital. The successful applicant will contribute to all aspects of the Radiation Oncology Physics service. You will be self-motivated and possess exceptional communication skills and demonstrated technical skills.

The Department of Health seeks an early career, highly motivated and team orientated Radiation Oncology Medical Physicist at the WP Holman Clinic, Hobart, Tasmania. The department has 2 Varian linear accelerators with new linear accelerator to be installed in February 2024, Canon CT simulator, Eclipse planning system and a Gulmay superficial x-ray unit. The successful applicant will contribute to all aspects of the Radiation Oncology Physics service participating in Quality Assurance activities as well as contributing to the development and advancement of techniques within the department. Therapy techniques in use at the WP Holman Clinic include IGRT, VMAT, DIBH, SBRT & SRT.

The Holman Clinic is part of the Cancer and Blood Services stream at the Royal Hobart Hospital, which provides an integrated radiation therapy, medical oncology and haematological service to Southern Tasmania.

Details of Appointment

Permanent, full time, day worker position working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

  • Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time and part time vacancies.

Salary: ROMP Level 2 $132,841 - $163,683 per annum + 5% market allowance + 11% superannuation + access to salary packaging

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

  • Salary range is in accordance with Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

  1. Tertiary qualification/program of study in medical physics or a related discipline recognised by the Australasian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine (ACPSEM)

  2. Holds or eligible for certification with the Australian College of Physical Scientists and Engineers in Medicine (ACPSEM) or ACPSEM deemed equivalent.
  3. Licenced to practice under Tasmanian Radiation Protection Act 2005 and the Radiation Protection Regulations 2016

    *Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered.

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:
