About the role
Reporting to the Manager: Workplace Relations and Business Partnering, our team of Workplace Relations Specialists provide strategic and expert advice on industrial and employment relations issues to the People & Culture (P&C) Directorate and across SCS. This role is critical in supporting SCS’ governance on all people related matters.

The ideal candidate will be professional, detail oriented and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. To prosper in this role, you will be a subject matter expert and well acquainted with current employment law. You will have the opportunity to professionally grow and play a vital part in establishing a sense of belonging and partnership within our directorate and our system of over 145 schools.
Key responsibilities include:
- contributing strategic and expert advice to senior leaders on the implications of the organisation’s employment and workforce relations issues and reforms
- advising on the P&C Directorate’s legal compliance framework and responding and remediating internal and external audit findings
- partnering with the P&C Business Partners and/or Health & Wellbeing Advisers in high-level/complex case management
- contributing to SCS’ employment relations plans and strategies and addressing key industrial relations issues based on contemporary practices and the evolving needs of the organisation
- supporting Enterprise Agreement negotiations, acting as SCS’s bargaining representative where required
- ensuring all contractual documents, policies and handbooks are updated and compliant with current legislation
- keeping up to date with employment legislation and case law and communicating changes.

About you
To be successful in this position, you must possess:
- an undergraduate degree in Law, Industrial Relations, Human Resources Management, or other relevant fields
- minimum of 5 years post-qualified experience as a professional within Workplace Relations or similar role (employment law experience preferred)
- high attention to detail and ability to interpret and apply relevant enterprise agreements, modern awards, legislation, contracts and policies
- high-level time management and organisational skills
- superior communication, negotiation, presentation and advocacy skills, including an ability to communicate and negotiate professionally
- expert drafting skills including the ability to write correspondence to a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders.
