The Allied Health and Wellbeing team at YSDS consists of professionals including Speech Pathology, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Behaviour Analyst, Mental Health Practitioners and an Allied Health Assistant.
Yarraville SDS is a small school that caters for students aged from 5 to 18 years old with a diagnosis of moderate to severe intellectual disability and associated differences. Responsibilities are varied and include:
• Conducting comprehensive assessments to assess speech, language and swallowing disorders.
• Develop appropriate interventions and strategies to support students to access the curriculum and meet their individual goals.
• Implement evidence-based interventions and therapeutic techniques to address communication and swallowing challenges alongside classroom staff.
• Collaborate with other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure integrated and holistic care.
• Provide education and support to staff, families, and caregivers regarding the student’s supports.
• Maintain accurate records on internal systems.
• Develop necessary documentation/reports as required.
• Participate in Student Support Groups and other planning meetings to share your expertise.
• Liaise with external providers to support students.
• Support students with personal care, mealtimes and yard duty.
Qualifications:
• A tertiary qualification in Speech Pathology recognised in Australia
• A current Certified Practising Membership of Speech Pathology Australia.
• Experience preferred but not essential in working with children with various communication differences and swallowing disorders.
• An understanding of AAC and implementation strategies.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and evidence-based practice.

3. An ability to deliver speech pathology services to students with a disability within an educational setting including assessment, reporting, and intervention.
4. Experience and knowledge in the use and application of low-tech and high-tech Augmentative and Alternative Communication systems.
5. Commitment to and ability to follow established school frameworks, timelines, and priorities and work effectively with the school leadership team.
6. An ability and willingness to provide professional development and information sessions to staff and families in relevant areas of speech pathology practise.
