Penrith City Council is the largest local government child care service provider in NSW, with more than 53 child care services annually catering for 5,000 children. Committed to providing Children's Services programs for the benefit of families and children across the City, we offer a variety of child care services including Long Day Care, Vacation and Out of School Hours Care, Preschools and a Mobile Playvan and are at the leading edge of implementing curriculum for the intellectual, social and physical development of the children within our care. 

About the role

We are currently seeking skilled and passionate Speech Therapists to join our team.

As a Speech Therapist, you will play a vital role in improving the lives of our children by assessing, planning, and implementing effective speech therapy interventions. You will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop customised treatment plans that address the unique needs of everyone. This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with diverse populations and make a positive impact on a global scale.

Task & Responsibilities:

  • Assessing and Diagnosing: Conducting evaluations to identify speech, language, voice, fluency, and swallowing disorders.
  • Treatment Planning: Creating individualised therapy plans, setting goals, and monitoring progress.
  • Providing Therapy: Utilising therapeutic techniques to enhance speech, language, and swallowing abilities.
  • Educating and Counselling: Offering guidance and support to the child and their families.
  • Record Keeping: Maintaining accurate records, including evaluations and treatment documentation.
  • Collaboration: Working closely with other healthcare providers for comprehensive care.
  • Professional Development: Staying current with research and participating in ongoing education.
  • Compliance and Regulation: Adhering to ethical guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Community Outreach: Engaging with the community to promote awareness and education.

Essential criteria

  • Bachelor of Applied Science –Speech Pathology or equivalent
  • Current membership with Speech Pathology Australia (SPA)
  • Experience in administering formal & standardised assessments.
  • Experience in setting goals and implementing sound evidence-based therapy techniques across a diverse range of disorders.
  • Experience developing and implementing individual intervention programs with families and other professionals using a family centred approach.
  • Certified Practising status
  • Current Driver's Licence
  • Working with Children Check
  • NDIS Worker Screening check or willing to obtain.

Desirable criteria

  • Accredited short courses /Certification to run Hanen programs or other relevant courses for children, parents, or educators.
  • Medicare provider number
  • Current First Aid certificate
  • Certificate IV in Workplace Assessment and Training
  • Eligibility to obtain a Medicare provider number.

Commencing salary: $100,424.00 - $116,244.00 per annum plus 11% superannuation. 

This position has been identified as a Child-Related position under Child Protection laws in NSW. To be eligible to apply, you are required to provide Council with a valid Working with Children Check Number.

This position requires the worker to be double vaccinated against COVID-19 or to hold a medical contraindication certificate.

You may be required to undertake background checks, as relevant to the position for which you have applied.

You will be required to undertake background checks, including a Qualification Check, Working with Children Check, Medical Declaration and a Functional Test as relevant to the position for which you have applied.
