The Opportunity
Want to work in an ambitious newsroom during a time of rapid growth? The Courier is one of Australia's leading regional news brands, based in Victoria's largest inland city. Located 75 minutes west of Melbourne, Ballarat is a thriving hub of history and culture, amazing food and wine and things to do.
We are looking for a reporter with high journalistic standards to tell the sports stories that drive engagement with readers across the Ballarat region.
We are looking for candidates with experience working in a fast-paced newsroom and keen to find exclusive news. You will be supported by one of Australia's best editorial trainers, developing your newsgathering and digital storytelling skills to position you for the next step in your journalism career.
The successful candidate will have
Strong news-gathering and writing/reporting skills across a range of areas
A passion for grassroots sports, sportspeople and their stories
Proven skills in writing for online and social media audiences with tight deadlines
At least a year's experience in a newsroom
Experience with social Reels and Canva highly desirable
