Squad Lead - Onboard Development

• Fortescue’s Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people.

The role of Squad Lead for the Onboard team is a leadership position overseeing the development and integration of software solutions for autonomous and automation projects across Fortescue. Reporting to the Software Development Coordinator, the Squad Lead plays a pivotal role in steering the squad towards delivering high-quality, efficient engineering solutions in alignment with solution architecture designs and product definitions.

• Lead and inspire the Development Squad, fostering a collaborative, effective and safe team culture.
• Develop and execute delivery plans for solution development, aligning with solution architecture and product goals.
• Collaborate with Partner Organisations, other Squad Leads and team members to define and implement best practice solution development and delivery.
• Lead the creation of proof of concepts (PoCs) to assess the viability and benefits of new technologies or methodologies.
• Ensure the developed solutions meet defined quality criteria and align with the software and solution architecture.
• Oversee the production of detailed documentation for developed solutions and proof of concepts, ensuring clarity and accessibility.
• Effectively manage resources within the Squad, optimising the team's capabilities to meet project delivery needs.

• Bachelor or Masters degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 4+ years of experience in software development, with a focus on tool development and process improvement.
• Strong leadership skills with experience in leading a software development squad.
• Familiarity with software design principles and the ability to implement them in engineering tools.
• Proficient in relevant technologies within the squad's scope (e.g. but not limited to: C++, Python, Git, CI/CD tools, test frameworks).
• Excellent communication and leadership skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
• Strong problem-solving skills and an analytical mindset.
• Proactive in identifying opportunities for process improvement and solution enhancement.
• Effective collaborator, capable of working seamlessly within cross-functional teams.
