About the role

The Staff Engineer is an in-team technical specialist whose primary focus is to design and build fit-for purpose solutions whilst strengthening the health of the technical systems/platforms/products within the team. They will do this by leading and empowering technical practices which support the delivery of software within product delivery/systems/platform teams.

The Cloud Ops team are super excited to announce we are SEEKing a Staff Engineer with strong Technical Leadership skills to help drive the future direction of Cloud Operations APAC. This role will focus on the design and delivery of fit for use products for Cloud Operation APAC.The role provides a clear career pathway for our technical ETS team aligned to the Engineering Growth framework. You will do plenty of hands-on coding and have opportunities to help shape broader patterns and practices through the tools and platforms we design and implement across SEEK. You will drive the alignment of your team's technical roadmap to SEEK's overall technical strategy. You will also provide people leadership through mentoring, developing and may also line manage other engineers.

At SEEK, our teams build products and solutions for internal and external customers. Teams are typically split into cross-functional, multi-disciplinary squads that work within an APAC matrix organisational structure. The custodial teams typically have a specific internal or external customer base within the marketplace they own and operate in e.g., Cloud Operations APAC, Candidate, Hirer, AIPS, Technology Platforms, Marketplace Services etc.

Responsibilities

Build

• Ensure your teams services /systems / platforms are fit for purpose, well architected and follow current SEEK development practices
• Drive platform health by ensuring that our systems are aligned to SEEK's technical metrics
• Uplift and embed technical practices in Cloud Operations APAC teams and design and lead a DevOps Culture
• Design, implement, and manage robust, scalable, and secure cloud infrastructure solutions in alignment with existing frameworks and SEEK's technology strategy
• Drive automation and orchestration efforts to optimize cloud operations and reduce manual intervention.
• Build and operate highly scalable and performant software
• Be a technical escalation person who owns and addresses production incidents through to resolution

Execute

• Exemplify the writing of clean, well-tested, readable software, using secure coding practices, current patterns and tooling
• Strengthen engineering discipline and technology capability in-team
• Build strong relationships with technical stakeholders including Architecture, Security and other technical teams as required.
• Support the Engineering Manager in Capacity Planning, Risk Management, scoping and prioritisation of technical work
• Employ in-depth technical understanding of the codebase/systems/tools/platforms in the team in which you work
• Lead secure system design and secure coding practices within team. Ensures team alignment to SEEKs security principles.
• Be the key point of contact for technical solutions and how other teams interface with systems/tools/platforms
• Proactively communicate with others in an effective, timely and empathetic manner including key stakeholders in other areas.
• Consider customer outcomes and how your systems/software/platform connect to their needs.

Support

• Grow team member technical capabilities through technical coaching, instruction and example behaviour
• Support the wellbeing of the team by fostering a culture of safety, inclusivity, diversity and engagement
• Act as a SEEK engineering ambassador and help attract technical talent
• Support the retention of engineering talent and effectively onboard new hires as required

Strengthen

• Key contributor to the engineering community at SEEK (e.g.: Open-source projects, Mentoring, Guilds)
• Actively seek out learning opportunities for self and others through inviting and providing regular feedback

Qualifications

• Experience partnering with senior stakeholders (e.g., Engineering Managers, Architects and Product Managers)
• Prior responsibility for the development & maintenance of a service / system / platform's health in accordance with key technical metrics
• Ability to effectively influence and negotiate with others, including senior stakeholders
• Experience collaborating with technical leaders and the wider technical community to assess and implement new methodologies and technologies
• Experience identifying and connecting Platform Teams with technical growth opportunities
• Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Google Professional Cloud Architect, Azure Solutions Architect) are a plus.
• Ability to operate in a team with geographically distributed team members
• Prior experience in one of the following technology roles would be considered essential: Cloud Platform Engineering, Software Development/Engineering/Data Engineering, Software Architecture OR System Administration/Engineering
• Demonstrated ability to champion and influence design decisions and adoption across an enterprise
