The Staff Engineer is an in-team technical specialist whose primary focus is to design and build fit-for purpose solutions whilst strengthening the health of the technical systems/platforms/products within the team.
They will do this by leading and empowering technical practices which support the delivery of software within product delivery/systems/platform teams.
About the Team
The Front End Practices team are responsible for guiding the internal practices for front-end development at SEEK. Including:- Web Platforms & Tooling for building, deploying, and serving web applications
Design Systems and related projects for prototyping and styling web applicationsWe design, develop, and deliver tools and platforms used by SEEK's front-end teams to build performant and consistent experiences for our users.We manage our own roadmap in close consultation with our customers – the SEEK engineering and design community.
We define our own ways of working, striving to bring a balance of passion and pragmatism to everything we do.
We embrace flexible working arrangements from hybrid through to fully remote.We have a particularly strong culture of open-source development. Our design system, Braid Design System, and front-end development toolkit, sku, are two of several open-source projects our team maintains.
About the Role
The focus for this role will initially be within Web Platforms, including leading how SEEK builds, deploys and serves it's web application.
For your given focus, you’ll be asked to:
- Direct and contribute to SEEK’s technology strategy
- Build platforms and tools that enable SEEK’s technology strategy
- Build and own a limited number of critical shared solutions
- Enable outcomes for product teams
- Exemplify engineering discipline and quality that uplift SEEK’s overall capability
You might find this role interesting if:
- You’ve written a Babel or ESLint plugin (or wanted to)
- You’ve written a tool to streamline your development workflow
- You’ve gone digging around the internals of Webpack or Vite (or similar)
- You’re simply passionate about browsers and the web platform
Required Skills & Experience
- Experience building Web Platforms, notably extending or building bundlers and transpilers
- Experience building highly technical developer tooling at scale
- In-depth knowledge of Browsers and Web Applications, including URL specifications and Web APIs
Technical Skills
- Technical knowledge of solution and application architectures. Able to mentally visualise, draw, and process complex systems.
- Experience implementing and maintaining tools for front-end development. Ability to build and run high quality, beautiful, and reliable software, tooling, libraries, and frameworks.
- Comfortable using TypeScript and NodeJS to create engineering solutions for delivering web applications at scale. Working with tools like React, Babel, ESLint, Webpack, or Vite.
- Experience writing code for, contributing to, and understanding community mechanisms of open-source projects.
- Understanding of mechanisms for compiling source code, bundling web applications, and static code analysis.
