The CBA technology unit delivers the best digital banking services to Commonwealth Bank customers and to do so is responsible for digital delivery, group data and analytics, technology and technology infrastructure, cyber, fraud, physical security and business resilience for all divisions across CBA. It is also dedicated to delivering the best workplace technology experience for our over 53,000 people across CBA and focused on providing the latest tools, technology, and resources to enhance the way we work together and empower our people to achieve more for our customers.

You will be part of the CIO - Technology team, which ensure that CommBank has a world-class engineering capability and is at the forefront of technology, using innovative and emerging technology to help our customers and support our Group Strategy. We work hard to ensure that best practice, whether inside CommBank or outside in the broader technology ecosystem, is discovered, sheltered, nurtured, and spread to wherever else it can drive the most benefit for the Group and our customers.

As a Staff Engineer, you'll be responsible for leading, promoting continuous improvement, developing technical roadmaps, and improving the quality of technical solutions by implementing industry best practises. You'll also document the new changes, communicate with the rest of the squad members, provide technical guidance and mentoring to the engineers in the team, and be exposed to some interesting challenges as we transition to the cloud.

We're interested in hearing from people who:

  • Are passionate about designing, developing and deploying high quality software solutions in large and complex enterprise environments

  • Are passionate about learning new tools and technologies

  • Designs, documents and implements solutions to distribute source system data via bulk interfaces

  • Produces high-quality technical solutions that are sustainable by utilising approved delivery frameworks and using industry best practises

  • Contributes to complex delivery planning by providing guidance and oversight to ensure that technical deliveries are aligned with engineering direction and strategy

  • Influences and guides stakeholders to ensure that solutions are robust, secure and highly available

  • Have a strong Risk Mindset - All CommBank employees are expected to proactively identify, understand, openly discuss and act on current and future risks

Tech Skills:

We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don't expect you to know them all but experience or exposure with some of these will set you up for success in this team:

  • CI/CD: working knowledge of tools like GitHub actions, TeamCity, Octopus Deploy, Jenkins, Ansible

  • Cloud: Hands-on experience with public cloud provider - AWS preferred

  • Hosting Patterns like IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service), CaaS (Container as a Service), PaaS (Platform as a Service), SaaS (Software as a Service)

  • Programming/Scripting Languages: Python, Bash, PowerShell, or similar is a plus.

  • Source Code and Artifact Management: GitHub, Jfrog Artifactory, X-Ray or other native cloud related tools

  • Security/Quality Engineering Tooling: Selenium Grid, Blazemeter, SonarQube, Checkmarx, Testing Virtualization frameworks

  • Engineering Productivity Tools: JIRA and Confluence

  • System/Network Skills: Server administration, Infrastructure as Code, networking knowledge of concepts like proxies, firewalls, load balancers etc.
