NSW Department of Education has an exciting opportunity for a skilled and experienced individual to join the Chief Data Office team as a Statistical Data Analyst.
About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to help make a difference to the lives of children and young people. In this role, you will be responsible for undertaking complex analysis and the provision of accurate and timely statistical advice to support senior officers. The analysis you are involved in will be used to shape education programs and policies within the department and will contribute to schools understanding the progress of students in key areas of the curriculum.

About you
· Provide conceptual and analytical advice on the analysis and reporting of educational data sets.
· Respond to requests for data, data analysis, and data interpretation from senior officers, staff and other interested parties.
· Effectively communicate analysis and results to a wide range of stakeholders and senior audiences using a range of written, verbal and visual methods, and to publication standard.
· Assist with the preparation of briefings, reports, research proposals and statistical publications for the Minister, Secretary and senior Departmental officers.
· Engage with stakeholders, including school operations and education services partners, to negotiate and develop analysis plans for emerging educational issues and to support service delivery needs.
· Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
Essential requirements of the role
· Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education
· Tertiary qualifications in statistics or a quantitative discipline, e.g., economics, mathematics, data science, physics, engineering, psychology, and/or relevant professional experience.
· Demonstrated experience using at least one of the statistical software packages (e.g., R, Stata, SPSS, RUMM), with the expectation of learning and programming in R.
· A demonstrated understanding, or an appetite to learn up-to-date knowledge of data analysis and statistical methods.
· Valid Working with Children Check for paid employment.
