About the role
The Statutory Planning & Vegetation Officer will work collaboratively across the Built Environment team to support awareness and regulatory compliance across all legislation relevant to GMCT's built environment capital works and asset management program. They will also be responsible for developing and maintaining tree policies, strategies, guidelines, management, maintenance plans and procedures.
Key responsibilities include
- Develop awareness and train BE staff on the regulatory framework relevant to BE's activities, including planning, environmental, heritage and Aboriginal Cultural Heritage laws.
- Monitor compliance with all relevant legislation and approvals granted to BE, ensuring that relevant staff are aware of their provisions and implications.
- Provide, or facilitate the provision of, advice on regulatory matters, including applications and approval processes.
- Maintain oversight on all statutory applications and referrals made on behalf of BE to provide prompt responses to any information requirements and avoid delays to critical pathways.
- Lodge and administer applications on behalf of GMCT, including the collation of all supporting material and responses to information requests.
To be successful in this position you will require:
- Tertiary qualifications in urban planning, environmental science or law.
- At least 5 years' experience in a relevant role.
- Demonstrated experience in a role involving direct communication with multiple stakeholders.
- Experience with vegetation management controls and/or asset management systems
