We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and experienced Sterilisation Technician to join our casual pool and work as part of our team to provide sterile, thermally and chemically disinfected medical and surgical equipment to all areas for use in patient care, in accordance with Australian standards.Bowral and District Hospital Perioperative Department is home to 3 Operating Theatres that conduct elective surgery Monday to Friday and emergency surgery after hours and on weekends. Central Sterilisation Services Department (CSSD) provides 7 day service to meet the needs of the facility and department.As a Sterilisation Technician you will be responsible for efficiently processing, handling and transporting all instruments and items supplied by CSSD to the Perioperative Department and the wider hospital, and to ensure safe and continuous delivery of service.A sound knowledge of current AS/NZ and ISO standards allows you to participate in continuous quality improvement in both CSSD and the Perioperative Services Department as we work closely together to ensure safest outcomes for our patients.The successful candidate will have:

  • Approved Certificate in Sterilising Technology.
  • Ability to liaise with colleagues and other health professionals effectively and in line with NSW Health CORE Values.
  • Experience in sterilisation services and instrument processing.
  • Ability to demonstrate competencies associated with work practice requirements of SSD.
  • Ability to apply Infection Control and Occupational Health and Safety standards.
  • Ability to problem solve effectively.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Continuous Quality Improvement.
  • Provide quality customer service to all external and internal customers.
  • Have an understanding of and ability to apply occupational health and safety principles to ensure own safety and that of others in the workplace.

The purpose of Grade 2 Sterilisation Technician is to provide a quality customer service by undertaking the operational activities performed by the Sterilising Services Department, for the process of reusable medical devices in accordance with AS/NZS4187:2014. This position requires a sound level of experience with ability to work independently, under general supervision and provides support to Grade 1 Sterilising Technicians.Where You'll Be Working

  • Experience working in a Hospital Sterilising Services Department with sound knowledge and understanding of AS/NZS4187:2014, Infection Prevention and Control and WH&S requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently or as an integral team member under the guidance of a Staff Supervisor for the process of complex medical devices including Orthopaedic loan equipment.
  • Ability to prioritise and communicate workload to achieve quality and timely process outcomes.
  • Commitment to providing a quality customer service by ensuring a focused approach for best practice and patient outcomes.
  • Sound communication ability with a high standard of written and verbal skills to ensure effective listening, understanding and following direction.
  • Basic computer skills for electronic tracking and Health related programs.
  • Ability to work a rotating roster, including weekends and Public Holidays for the provision of a 7 day service to the Peri-Operative Services Department.
