The Organisation - The Leprosy Mission Australia

2024 is the 150th year of the international charity, The Leprosy Mission, with 110 years in Australia. We partner with Australians to ensure that people affected by leprosy across the world get the cure, care, and restoration they need to live life in all its fullness. As part of a global network comprised of 30 Members and Affiliates, we are working together to reach our goal of zero leprosy transmission by 2035.

The Leprosy Mission is an organisation driven by Christian values to extend the hand of ‘mateship’ to those affected by Leprosy, disability and other marginalised people. Our programmes are on the ground in India, Nepal, Nigeria, Thailand, Papua New Guinea, Indonesia, and Timor Leste.
The Role – Strategic Relationships Lead

Reporting to the CEO, and working closely with the Fundraising and Communications Manager, you will take ownership of the existing philanthropy portfolio with a clear focus on growing each or your assigned revenue streams; Major Gifts (High net worth donors), Bequests (Gift in Wills), Trusts & Foundations (Family & Corporate) and Grants.
As the Strategic Relationships Lead, you will be a self-driven relationship manager with the ability to build a robust fundraising pipeline and have the resilience and patience to see this through. You will provide a high level of donor engagement techniques including phone calls, face to face meetings, online meetings, strategic digital and offline communications, and an array of events.
You will research, identify, establish, and nurture relationships with your prospects and existing portfolio to grow support for the work and mission of the organisation and play a vital role in the organisation's continued success.
Dovetailing with these activities, in 2024 The Leprosy Mission will be celebrating its 150th Anniversary. The Strategic Relationships Lead will work closely with the CEO and the Fundraising and Engagement and Social Enterprise Teams to develop and execute a range of activities and fundraising events, promoting the brand campaign including product offerings and publishing.
The role has the full support of the CEO and Board, a recent wealth scan has been completed, impact and case for support reports are in place and there is internal team support and resources available to really make this a success. Responsibilities
  • Develop the Philanthropy strategy in collaboration with the Fundraising & Communications Manager & CEO
  • Identify, engage & solicit major gift & foundations prospects
  • Develop & implement a tailored communication strategy for your pipeline
  • Engage existing donors & cultivate effective, long-term relationships through a variety of communication channels
  • Produce monthly reports for measurable fundraising activities in your program
  • Further develop the strategy for the mid-level donor journey and upgrade
  • Prepare donor briefings for larger asks to support the CEO
  • Effective ask, negotiation and close for prospect donors including stewardship & reporting
  • Assist with the creation of philanthropy related event
  • Represent the organisation on occasion in group settings including public speaking
  • Contributing to the partnerships, events and fundraising aspects of the emerging strategic plan for the 150th celebrations ensuring the core purpose of TLMA remains central to all activities

Your Skills & Attributes
  • Respectful & comfortable operating in a Christian belief based organisation
  • Demonstrated success in a relationship fundraising role is preferred
  • Success in a business development position with a long sales cycles & long-term relationships - plus a clear connection to their mission or beliefs will be considered.
  • Confidence with CRM system usage; inputting information & reporting (they use Thank Q)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills & the ability to connect & influence a large group of people
  • Experience building & maintaining long term, meaningful, professional relationships.
  • Clear persuasive communication skills, both spoken & written
  • Excellent information presentation skills
  • A commitment to best practice fundraising, engagement & customer service
  • Results-oriented with the ability to take initiative & be proactive
