About The Role:
Provide a holistic, best practice and evidence-based wrap-around support, assessment, referral, consultation and short-term solution focussed and person-centred counselling to support Bendigo Kangan Institute's student wellbeing and academic outcomes. This Includes:
- Assess for, and manage, emerging, acute, and complex student mental health issues.
- Facilitate psychosocial education programs on a range of different topics that address mental health awareness, wellbeing and support options.
- Maintain knowledge of working with students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds (CALD), students with disabilities, Indigenous students, and students who identify as LGBTQIA+.
- Maintain appropriate records management in accordance with the requirements of Bendigo Kangan Institute, relevant legislation, and professional bodies.
We are excited about you because you have
- Tertiary qualification and experience in counselling, social work, psychology or community services with eligibility for membership in relevant regulatory bodies:
- Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA)
- Counselling Association (ACA)
- Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW)
- Australian Psychological Society (APS) or
- Australian Community Workers Association (ACWA)
- Or, lesser formal qualification with extensive experience/management expertise or a combination of relevant experience and/or education and training
- Short-term, solution-focused and client-centred counselling experience, preferably in an education setting
- Demonstrated experience in co-counselling, facilitating proactive wellbeing and engagement workshops, liaising with education departments, and engaging and supporting students.
- Clear evidence of practical referral skills
- Highly developed communication skills and the ability to liaise effectively with students, key stakeholders and staff
- Strong understanding and familiarity with the Child Wellbeing and Safety Act 2005 (Child Safe Standards) and the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005 (Mandatory Reporting).
- Experience working with clients from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, people with disabilities, Indigenous backgrounds and individuals who identify in the LGBTIQA+ community
