Job description

Purpose of the Position
The Student Experience Officer is the primary customer interface between the Institute and prospective and current students on the Desert Peoples Centre Campus, Alice Springs in Central Australia. This position will assist in the day-to-day operations of the Student Experience Division to enhance the students experience in Central Australia.

Classification:  Administrative Officer Level 4BI - $74,366-$84,797 p.a

Duties

  • Be the focal point for student related enquiries in Central Australia regarding information and processes related to all Student Experience work areas such as Student Administration, Travel Services, Student and Residential Services and Library & Information Services.  
  • Liaise with, and direct enquiries to, appropriate staff members, divisions of the Institute or external stakeholders to address and resolve customer enquiries.
  • Assist with Orientations for VET and Higher Education & Research students and candidates, Institute staff and prospective clients.
  • Assist with effective and efficient pastoral support for students including social & emotional wellbeing and cultural support.
  • Assist in the organisation of, or undertake, the transporting of students, to and from, residential accommodation to the campus and/or pastoral support activities, as required.
  • Assist in the promotion and understanding of the Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme (ITAS) to staff and students to ensure that appropriate tutorial support is provided to students, as required.

Key Selection Criteria
  1. Certificate III or higher in a relevant discipline and/or working towards completion of, or relevant experience in a similar role.
  2. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in culturally diverse teams within the social, political, and cultural environments of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, communities, and organisations.
  3. Highly effective interpersonal skills including proficient and oral communication which can be adapted to meet the needs of people from all educational levels.
  4. Demonstrated capability in the understanding and interpretation of procedures that relate to Commonwealth/State legislation.
  5. Demonstrated capability in participating in a diverse team to obtain outcomes of success.
  6. Ability to demonstrate meeting multiple and conflicting deadlines,
  7. Understanding of Work, Health and Safety, Equity and Anti-discrimination principles and practices, and ability to comply with Institute WHS Policies and Procedures.

  • Work at and travel between other Institute campuses or to other locations from time to time as may be required during the course of employment.
  • Complete all mandatory training such as required by the Institute.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the principles of anti-discrimination, staff and student equity, work health and safety and other relevant legislation, and show the willingness and capacity to implement equal employment opportunity and work health and safety plans, policies, and programs.
  • Applicants must be able and willing to undertake travel throughout the NT and Interstate (sometimes as a light aircraft passenger).
  • Current NT "LR" Class driver’s license, or the ability to obtain and maintain one.
  • Applicants must have an Ochre Card and a current Police Check and/or the ability to obtain these prior to commencement.
Work Health & Safety
  • Ensure all activities comply with WHS legislation and Institute policies & procedures.
  • Implement & monitor risk management activities including, but not limited to, workplace inspections, incident/hazard investigation and follow-up, and implementation of risk controls.
  • Analysis of WHS training requirements for staff including the provision of training and monitoring of training to ensure completion and currency.
  • Current First Aid Certificate, or ability to obtain and maintain one.
