About the role
In this role, you will have the opportunity to gain practical work experience and contribute to the planning department's needs, to compliment the theory of your planning course. This role will also see you develop your professional communication skills through interaction with customers in a face to face, phone and email capacity. This is an ongoing casual position, with hours flexible to suit your study timetable.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Learn and contribute to the day to day running of the planning department requirements.
  • Analyse and assist with planning enquiries and applications to determine compliance with relevant legislation, including VicSmart legislation (or equivalent) applications so they are dealt with in the prescribed time limits.
  • Assist with the investigation and evaluation of planning applications and related documents within a team environment.
  • Assist with the coordination of input from internal and various government departments and the general public.
  • Prepare correspondence in relation to Council decisions and enquiries from the public.
  • Provide clients with a professional advisory service and assist the public with general enquiries.
  • Assist with and maintain appropriate administrative and information recording systems within the department as required.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have a genuine interest in planning, and how it contributes to our community. You will be a self-starter who has the ability to work autonomously, with professional communication skills both written and verbal.
Essential Experience:
  • Commencement or near completion of a tertiary qualification in Town Planning/Urban Studies or similar related field.
  • Ability to set priorities and plan/organise work allocated.
  • Awareness of current trends and issues affecting town planning.
  • Demonstrated analytical, investigative, interpretative and problem-solving skills.
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills
