Purpose of the Position
The Student Support & ITAS Officer is the primary customer interface between the Institute and prospective and current students on the Batchelor Campus. This position will assist in the day-to-day operations of the Student Enquiries & Support Team, to enhance the students experience on Batchelor Campus.
Duties
(a) Student Support
- Be the focal point for student related enquiries and support regarding information and processes related to Student Services.
- Provision of support for students with disabilities and disadvantaged students.
- Assist in the provision of Orientations for VET and Higher Degrees by Research students, candidates’ candidates, Institute staff.
- Provide effective and efficient support for students with disabilities and/or who are disadvantaged through an established support plan.
- Provide Social and Emotional wellbeing support to students within the residents whilst on campus.
- Liaison with Kitchen Services team regarding student numbers and the provision of special dietary requirements.
- Promote the understanding of Student Services processes to internal and external clients.
- Assist in the maintenance and review of relevant databases to record Student Support plans.
- First point of contact for current and potential tutors
- The interface between VET Division and Students Services for provision of tutorial support.
- Effective provision of tutorial support to eligible students.
- Improving educational outcomes for students
- The identification of available tutors to deliver tutorial support to students in remote and other areas.
- Promote the understanding of tutorial assistance under the Scheme and provide information sessions to staff and/or students as required.
- Assist with the dispatch of all Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme forms for students & tutors.
- Assist with the dispatch of Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme (ITAS) information packages to potential tutors.
- Carry out the day-to-day functions of ITAS in accordance with Institute procedures which include but are not limited to tutorial entitlement, production of Tutor contracts and work programs.
- Assist with the maintenance of the database of appropriately qualified tutors and ensure this information is available to Trainers.
- Assist with the preparation and renewal of contractual agreements between tutors and the Institute.
- Certificate III or higher in a relevant discipline and/or working towards completion of, or relevant experience in a similar role.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in culturally diverse teams within the social, political, and cultural environments of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, communities, and organisations.
- Highly effective interpersonal skills including proficient written and oral communication which can be adapted to meet the needs of people from all educational levels.
- Demonstrated capability in the understanding and interpretation of procedures that relate to Commonwealth/State legislation.
- Demonstrated capability in participating in a diverse team to obtain outcomes of success.
- Ability to demonstrate meeting multiple and conflicting deadlines.
- Understanding of Work, Health and Safety, Equity and Anti-discrimination principles and practices, and ability to comply with Institute WHS Policies and Procedures.
