The diversity of skills, life experiences and perspectives within our team enhances our way of working and our ability to achieve success together.About the roleWe are looking for a Study Lead - Tailings Closures, who will help shape the future of Tailings Closure planning within Rio Tinto Iron Ore, progressing studies to support facilities approaching capacity in the medium term.You'll be part of a supportive team, supported by your Leader to grow and achieve your own personal goals as well as the goals of the team. You'll work Monday to Friday based in Perth which will give you more time to spend on the things that are important to you and the people in your life.Reporting to the Principal Tailings and Dam Studies you will be:
  • Accountable for delivering the study outputs safely, on time and within budget.
  • This includes identifying and evaluating options, challenging assumptions, and delivering on opportunities.
  • Management of study risks ensuring that work is focussed reducing risk and knowledge gaps where possible, communicating changes effectively through the business.
  • Managing internal governance and approvals to move through study phases.
  • Supporting operational engagements to enable opportunities for progressive closure and support engagement with external stakeholders enabling advancement of the study towards a successful outcome for all parties.
  • You will be managing external consultants and in-directly internal team members from various parts of the business to be successful.
  • Working with the Rio Tinto Iron Ore Closure team in relation to closure readiness and study objectives relevant to post operations management and maintenance.
What you'll bring
  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • A tertiary qualification in Engineering, Project Management, Processing, Geoscience, Environmental Science or other relevant discipline
  • Demonstrated experience in study or project management related to the fields of tailings or mine closure
  • An understanding of operational tailings activities and how these can be utilised to support future closure strategies
  • An ability to understand technical and stakeholder issues and solutions outside your field of expertise
  • An aspiration to drive change and contribute to continuous improvement in Tailings Closure
  • Proven leadership experience with effective influencing and negotiation skills
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Experience in presenting complex technical assessments to a range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong experience and knowledge of the different study stages

Where you will be workingThe Tailings Studies team is based in Perth supporting our operations in the Pilbara with ad hoc travel to the site.In the Pilbara region of Western Australia, we own an integrated portfolio of iron ore assets: a world-class, integrated network of 16 mines, four independent port terminals, a 1,700 kilometre rail network and related infrastructure - all designed to respond rapidly to changes in demand.
