Superintendent - Environment and Community

About the Business:

Batchfire Resources is the owner of Callide Mine in Central Queensland, an open-cut coal operation located 120 km southwest of Gladstone and 20 km northeast of the town of Biloela. The mine has operated since 1944 producing coal primarily for domestic power generation, alumina refining and export markets. Under the ownership of Batchfire Resources (since October 2016), the business has an exciting transformation journey ahead and is seeking a Superintendent - Environment and Community to play a key role in shaping Batchfire Callide resources for a sustainable future.

About the Role:

Working within an experienced, stable Environment and Community team the Superintendent - Environment and Community role will drive continual improvement of the Environment Management System, with particular focus on the company's environmental compliance obligations. The role is responsible for providing support for Callide Mine to maintain environmental compliance and specialised environmental advice for accurate and timely monitoring and reporting while reporting to the Manager - Environment and Community. You will be expected to 'Walk the Talk,' as a role model under the mine Safety & Health Management System.

Position Responsibilities: 

  • Drive the development, implementation and continual improvement of the Environmental Management System.
  • Contractor management under the Safety and Health Management System and Environmental Management System.
  • Develop effective stakeholder relationships including management, employees, government, and neighbouring landholders as required for the role.
  • End of month reporting and environmental monitoring data management and regular monitoring infrastructure maintenance and services.
  • Implementation and monitoring of Site Water Management System, groundwater and erosion and sediment controls.
  • Support management of Air Quality and site Waste Management systems.
  • Support implementation of land management programs including Permit to Disturb, land clearing, weeds and pests, fire management, nature refuge, offset areas, wire fencing, agistment agreement and cultural heritage surveys.
  • Support execution of the operational rehabilitation program and annual rehabilitation monitoring.
  • Support implementation of community and neighbour activities and programs.

About You:

You will have tertiary qualifications in environmental science or related discipline with a minimum of 5 years of environmental management experience in mining or heavy industry Environment and knowledge of environmental management systems, processes and standards to ensure compliance with legislative requirements. You must have a strong commitment to safe production and a technical understanding of mining and environment legislation. 

This is a full-time (Mon-Fri), permanent site-based role with an excellent remuneration package.
