About us

Pacific National (PN) is the largest private provider of diversified rail freight services in Australia. We are a company built on solid foundations and we are incredibly proud of the essential role we continue to play supporting Australia’s supply chain. At Pacific National, we take great pride in delivering our best every day and have a relentless focus on customer service and place safety above all else.

We operate nationally with approximately 3,500 staff in over 90+ sites across Australia. We respect and care for the communities in which we operate and continue to evolve our community engagement and strengthen relationships through partnerships and investment.

About the role

The Superintendent role is part of the South Australian regional lead team and is responsible for the overall running of our Port Augusta driver depot, which is a pivotal location in supporting east/west supply chain, as well two terminals and a remote driver barracks.

Leading an operational team of 120 with 4 direct reports, you will be strong communicator, and have the ability to build a culture based on collaboration, respect and performance. You will ensure that the day-to-day operational activities of your allocated sites meet our safety-first approach while maintaining efficiency and meeting performance standards.

This position requires a high level of leadership, people management, negotiation, and communication skills to operate effectively. The Superintendent must develop, communicate, direct and gain support for the implementation of strategies aimed at performance improvement of the team and the operation.

About you

Experience in the rail industry is not essential, but you need to be a leader that respects the importance of gaining a strong understanding of the operational environment to build a high performing team and operation.

You will be a strong communicator with demonstrated experience managing a large team in particular the complexities of building employee relationships across remote worksites.

This role will require a leader that thrives in having full accountability, can work autonomously and with the ability to drive positive cultural change across safety and performance. As a 24/7 operation accessibility of the Superintendent is pivotal therefore flexibility with working hours is essential
