SalaryThe Family Violence and Therapeutic Courts Unit (FVTCU) is a state-wide network of specialist prosecutors who provide specialist support and advice, and conduct complex prosecutions in the family violence and therapeutic courts (including Drug Court, Assessment and Referral Court and Koori Court) jurisdictions of the Magistrates' Court. The Supervising Lawyer, South West is responsible for Werribee, Geelong, Ballarat, Warrnambool and Horsham.
This a multifaceted and dynamic role that offers the opportunity to be exposed to complex advocacy and advice work and contribute to departmental and organisational strategy through policy and project work. As a Supervising Lawyer, you will play a leading role in the training, professional development and supervision of prosecutors practising within family violence and/or therapeutic courts. You will prepare and appear as an advocate in complex, sensitive and high-profile matters within your region and engage in policy and project work that drives the strategic objectives of the organisation.

Your duties will include:
- Court advocacy in the Specialist Family Violence and Therapeutic Courts jurisdictions of the Magistrates' Court of Victoria.
- Providing legal and strategic advice on criminal and civil prosecutions and other areas relating to family violence and therapeutic courts.
- Delivering training and supporting professional development of prosecutors and legal support staff within the North West region.
- Engaging with diverse internal and external stakeholders to maintain and grow professional working relationships, influence, and negotiate outcomes and develop solutions to complex problems.
- Project and policy work that supports the strategic objectives of the Legal Services Department and Victoria Police.
- Experience as a criminal lawyer and/or prosecutor.
- An understanding of Specialist Family Violence Courts and/or Therapeutic Court.
- An unrestricted practising certificate.
- A current and valid driver's licence.
- One (1) x full-time, fixed term position available end date 05/01/2025.
- The salary range for a VPS5 role is $106,534 to $128,897 (covering salary ranges VPSG 5.1 and VPSG 5.2). Although it is standard practice for selected candidates to commence at the base of the salary range, genuine consideration will be given to a commencement salary within the available range that is commensurate with the successful candidate's knowledge, skills and experiences. This will be subject to negotiations with the Hiring Manager in the course of the selection process and may include the provision of evidence of a higher income and/or supporting documentation (as required).
- This position may be located at a prosecution office within the South West Region or at Prosecutions Branch Headquarters, 456 Lonsdale Street, Melbourne.

- The successful applicant will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
- As a member of the Legal Services Department you will be located, on selection, at a specific office within a Division for a particular advertised opportunity. However, given occasional legal service demand issues you may be required at times to undertake varied work within the Department.
