About the job
The Australian Water Quality Centre (AWQC) is an independent business unit of SA Water, we provide our customers with NATA accredited sampling, testing and analysis services associated with chemistry, microbiology, biology and ecology of waters, wastewater, sediments and sludge as well as product testing services.
In this position, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of laboratory Sample Receipt and Stores functions under the guidance of the Manager Customer & Business Services. Your role involves coordinating workload, supporting the team, and enabling them to achieve customer outcomes. Additionally, you will contribute to the creation of an effective monitoring service for clients. Participation in an on-call roster will be required in this role.
About you
This position will ideally suit a candidate with expertise in laboratory Sample Receipt and inventory management, ideally with expertise as a team leader / mentor in an operational laboratory. The preferred candidate will also demonstrate the ability to lead a small team effectively and achieve specific business and customer outcomes.
In addition, your responsibilities will include:
- Be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the Sample Receipt team.
- Plan and coordinate staffing arrangements for Sample Receipt, ensuring adequate staffing levels to meet demand, and manage staff training and competency.
- Provide support and advice in relation to sample handling and processing.
- Work collaboratively with the pre-analytical and laboratory leadership teams to ensure a high-quality customer focused service.
- Ensure compliance and maintain quality management processes to ensure ongoing accreditation under NATA17025 and ISO9001standards
- Maintain key performance indicators for the unit and staff.
- Manage goods Receipt and store inventory.
- Diploma of Laboratory Technology/Science related Degree or a related discipline and equivalent working experience.
- Experience in managing a small team.
- Well-developed communication skills, both verbal and written, to facilitate understanding of technical matters by a range of people both internal and external to AWQC.
- Experience in laboratory information management systems or similar - desirable.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to be able to work effectively in a team environment.
- Strong customer service focus with a drive to go the extra mile.
- Sound knowledge of WHS practices and requirements for laboratories - desirable.
