Salary Range: $76,754 to $126,236 (based on skills and experience) plus superannuation

About the Role 
St John Paul II College (JPC) is a co-educational, inclusive secondary school serving families in the north of Canberra. At JPC, we strive for excellence in teaching so that our students are offered every opportunity for success in their learning.

We are seeking a dynamic and committed Classroom Support Teacher to join our learning community.

The successful candidate will demonstrate effective teaching skills, an excellent understanding of the curriculum area and work to support the development of students within the Learning Diversity faculty.

Experience in the delivery of Literacy Intervention programs and assisting classroom teachers to incorporate literacy strategies for diverse learners, as well as an understanding of the NCCD moderation process is highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver intervention programs in line with their subject expertise or with additional training (provided).
  • Work alongside staff and leaders, assisting with the modification and accommodations individual students require through sharing knowledge, ideas, and resources.
  • Create resources that are evidence-based to maximise the growth of diverse learners and support the development of the executive functioning and social skills of students.
  • Contribute to the Gifted and Talented programs in line with their skills and expertise.
  • Assist with the development and monitoring of students’ Personalised Learning Plans to assist with the implementation of evidence-based classroom adjustments.
  • Undertake shared responsibility for all NCCD data collection, liaising with CE Inclusion Practices School Officer to ensure compliance.
  • Oversee the process of diagnostic assessment and associated permissions, and transition processes for students with additional needs.
  • Work with teachers to provide in-class support to students with identified needs.

Qualifications

  • Must hold a relevant Working with Children registration and Teacher Accreditation.
  • Must have completed relevant Education/Teaching tertiary qualification.
  • Relevant additional qualifications in supporting students with additional needs is highly desirable.

  1. Demonstrated high-level teaching skills and the passion and expertise to work individually and collectively to maximise learning outcomes for all students, including those with additional learning needs.
  2. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the capacity to develop productive and caring relationships with students, parents, and staff where the focus is on the learning and wellbeing of the student.
  3. Well-developed self-management skills and the personal capabilities of self-reflection, integrity, resilience, and emotional maturity.
  4. Demonstrated capacity and willingness to develop students’ unique capabilities through participation in the broader life of the school.
