Synthetic Biologist

We are on the lookout for an exceptional Synthetic Biologist to lead the development of next generation products that change the world.

Based in Noosa, Australia, Provectus has built state of the art laboratories, pilot facilities and large scale biomanufacturing capabilities to design-build-test and scale the world’s most advanced products to solve some of the world’s greatest problems. 
 

As part of a dynamic team you will lead the synthetic biology effort to design-build-test engineered strains of microbes to express target proteins suitable for commercial production. This is an autonomous role that requires a mid-career or experienced self-starter with the confidence to develop and execute complex engineering strategies from ideation to completion. Responsibilities:

• Design-Build-Test microbes (bacteria, yeast, algae);
• Design and carry out assays to evaluate quantitative and qualitative traits of your microbes and engineered proteins; 
• Maintain laboratory records, and contribute to laboratory organisation and maintenance;
• Organise and order inventory required for the uninterrupted execution of your workflows;
• Calibrate and maintain instruments relevant to your role;
   

Requirements:

• Must haves: 
  • 2+ years of industry experience or Post Graduate Degree in Synthetic Biology or equivalent; 
  • Demonstrated experience in the Design-Build-Test of bacteria, specifically E. Coli;
  • Extensive hands-on laboratory experience with modern cloning techniques, including DNA fragment assembly and analysis, routine propagation of cell lines, multiple transfection reagents/methods, developing transfection and activity verification strategies, assessments of cell health and viability, cell preservation techniques and production in PC2 and/or cGMP compliant facilities;
• Desirable:
  • Design-Build-Test of photosynthetic algae and yeast;
  • Anaerobic fermentation/cultivation of Archaea; 
  • Pilot scale cultivation of E. Coli;
  • Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS);
