Position Summary

Tangentyere Council Aboriginal Corporation (TCAC) is a community controlled Public Benevolent Institution delivering human services and social enterprise activities for the benefit of Aboriginal people from the Alice Springs Town Camps, urban Alice Springs, and Central Australia.

Tangentyere Employment Services (TES) delivers the Community Development Programme (CDP) for Alice Springs Town Campers, outstations in the region and Amoonguna.

The Municipal and Essential Services Activity Leader Town Camps is responsible for the quality and effective delivery of Work Preparation Activities aligned with the Municipal and Essential Services contract. This position will also assist Town Camp Activity Leaders to implement Town Camp specific projects and address priority projects as need arises. The activities run at Town Camps are designed under the leadership of the Community Development Program (CDP) Coordinator and the local labour market needs. This position works closely with Town Camp residents to deliver quality activities that improve Town Camps and creates a sustainable, peaceful, safe, and positive way of life.

A key responsibility of the CDP Activity Leader Town Camps is to ensure that all activities are designed and delivered in such a way as to enhance participants’ employability skills. While the successful attendance at the activity is important, the focus of the TES CDP Activities Program is on the development of skills, build confidence and overcoming barriers to obtain sustainable employment for participants.

As part of your role, you will be working with children, people with a disability and people who are vulnerable. It is your obligation to always ensure their safety and report any concerns in line with our duty of care obligations. We have zero tolerance when it comes to abuse of any kind and will take disciplinary action, including and up to termination of employment, should we determine that abuse has taken place or there has been a failure to report any suspected or alleged abuse.

Responsibilities

• Maximise activity attendance of ‘Activities to Employment’ employees and other program participants.

• Provide leadership for the ‘Activities to Employment’ team to achieved required outcomes.

• Support and assist in completion of tasks required in relation to the Municipal and Essential Services Contract.

• Maintain up-to-date records and report on work progress to the CDP/MES Coordinator.

• Assess and incorporate relevant training and support services for participants to increase knowledge and skills, address barriers, and liaise with the TES Employment Consultants on a regular basis to stay informed and share jobseeker information.

• Develop positive relationships with the community, as well as internal and external stakeholders.

• Ensure all vehicles, facilities, plant, and equipment are maintained and secured in accordance with organisational policy.

• Adhere to Tangentyere Council Work Health and Safety policies and procedures.

• Assist with achieving quality management objectives across the organisation.

• Assist with achieving safeguarding objectives across the organisation.

• Assist with achieving compliance objectives across the organisation.

• Other reasonable duties as required.

Qualifications and Selection Criteria

Required

• An understanding of Aboriginal Culture and issues impacting Indigenous people in Alice Springs.

• Trade qualification or a minimum of five years industry experience in municipal services, land management or in a related industry.

• Demonstrated experience in team supervision and leadership and the ability to implement and supervise work schedules.

• Demonstrated ability to achieve organisational goals and targets by effectively maintaining team engagement.

• Sound knowledge and relevant experience in the municipal services delivery.

• Demonstrated experience of applying WHS practices including undertaking risk assessments.

• Hold as a minimum a current Heavy Rigid vehicle NT driver’s licence as a minimum.

• Current licences and competencies for plant as well as current Work zone traffic management qualifications.

• Current NT Drivers Licence, NT Working with Children (Ochre) Card, satisfactory Police Check, and proof of full (3) vaccination against COVID-19.

Desired

• Working experience and knowledge of the CDP IT system and a broad knowledge of Employment Services and the Community Development Programme.

• Practical experience with home/garden skills and small-scale DIY projects.

• Current First Aid Certificate, or ability and willingness to attain.
