Locally known as Koolkan Aurukun Community School, we cater to current enrolments of approximately 200 students from Pre-Prep to Year 10. Our students are active learners who come from a rich cultural and linguistic background. We offer specialist teaching in music and physical education to support the interests and foster development of abilities in these important areas.

Living in Aurukun
Aurukun is a very remote Indigenous community located 11 hours by road from Cairns, on the North West coast of the Cape York Peninsula. Home to around 1300 people, this community is the traditional homeland of the Wik, Wik Waya and Kugu people. The predominant traditional language spoken in Aurukun is Wik Mungkan; this is the first language of most Aurukun children. A region rich in traditional cultural practices.
When you have some down time, get out and explore the local area, go fishing or camping or take the 4WD out for a run – ask the locals for some tips. Travel to Aurukun is by road or air with Skytrans operating flights on weekdays. Local amenities include a health clinic, library, fuel station, store and take away food shop.
