About the role

We invite you to apply to become a member of our dynamic and distinctive school community. As a primary teacher in our team, you will join in our shared responsibility for the wellbeing and success of all. You will use your positive classroom management; excellent, responsive planning of challenging and engaging programs; and effective repertoire of teaching skills to achieve robust academic, social and wellbeing outcomes for students. You should have an excellent understanding of the WA Curriculum, strong skills in literacy and numeracy, and be earnestly developing your cultural responsiveness.

You will be purposeful and deliberate in striving to create learning conditions that maximise opportunities for every student to achieve and progress. You will actively support the implementation and ongoing review of whole of school approaches that have explicit teaching, sound data analysis, and success for all at their core. Your well-developed interpersonal skills will be utilised to work collaboratively with colleagues within the school and network to improve your own practice, and to support others to do the same. Our team knows strong partnerships are essential to maximise the success of our students, and you should build respectful, productive relationships with our students, their families, and partnering agencies, corporations, and community groups.

At KPS, we endeavour to develop leadership at all levels. We seek teachers who thrive when working in a strong, professional, and supportive team and who will contribute to the maintenance of our positive and caring school culture that is founded on high levels of relational trust. The successful applicant will be flexible, passionate, have a growth mindset, and be dedicated to getting the best out of themselves and every student.

Our school

Katanning Primary School is in the Great Southern town of Katanning and is a member of the Great Southern Schools Network. Like the wider community, our school celebrates its diversity: over 40% of our students are Aboriginal and 20% of our students speak a language other than English at home. We value all that this contributes to our development of confident, socially responsible, successful students with broad perspectives, developing cultural understandings, and an increasingly knowledgeable world view.

  • Professional knowledge;
  • Professional practice; and
  • Professional engagement.

Applications will be assessed against these domains. The business needs of the school may also be considered. It is therefore recommended that you consider all information contained in the advertisement and any other related information before applying for the vacancy.

Applicants currently completing the Department of Education Leap program (formerly known as the Switch program) can apply for vacancies using their current or Leap qualification – even if they have not completed the program at the time of applying. Applicants may be appointed to a vacancy based on the qualification being completed via the Leap program.

The Department is an equal opportunity employer and encourages people with disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and persons from culturally diverse backgrounds to apply.
