Para Meadows School, located in North Wollongong, supports students with additional needs. Our school enrols students K-12 with a moderate to severe intellectual disability. Students may have a secondary disability which could include complex medical needs, sensory needs, physical needs, autism and/or complex behaviours. The staff is committed to delivering high-quality education for all students. Of the 117 student enrolments, 14% require support in the form of English as an Additional Language or Dialect (EAL/D) and 12% are Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander peoples. We assist parents and carers in the educational planning process through Personalised Learning and Support Plans (PLSPs). Along with the development of the emotional and social wellbeing of their child to make all transitions successful throughout their schooling and beyond. The school continually strives to ensure all students can and will learn, and we endeavour to improve learning and engagement in literacy, communication and numeracy. We are committed to ensuring that parents are invited to share in the educational opportunities presented to their children. This is a full time teaching position.
Selection Criteria- Approval to teach Special Education and/or experience teaching students with moderate/severe intellectual disabilities (Primary and Secondary), physical disabilities (Primary and Secondary), autism, complex needs and behaviour difficulties (Primary and Secondary).
- Proven ability to collaboratively develop, implement and evaluate dynamic personalised learning plans that meet the social, cultural, emotional, sensory and complex communication needs of diverse students.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver high quality literacy and numeracy programs with expertise in using evidence-based practices to inform teaching practice.
- Well developed interpersonal and communication skills with the capacity to build positive and authentic relationships with students, parents, staff, external agencies and the wider community.
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
