About the Role

The Teaching in Practice Teacher role is responsible for providing specialist assistance and support to campus teams and students. The key features of this role is to coach, train and mentor Teachers and Learning Support Officers to plan and implement best practice in Teacher & Learning strategies and support in the classroom for students.

In this full-time role, successful applicants should be able to confidently:

  • Plan, implement, model, monitor and evaluate teaching programs for students with additional learning and support needs in conjunction with regular classroom teachers.
  • Plan, implement, model, monitor and evaluate personalised adjustments for learning where required, with the classroom teacher, student and/or parent or carer.
  • Model exemplary classroom practice when tailoring adjusted learning programs for students with additional learning needs.
  • Provide direct support for students with additional learning and support needs through a range of strategies (including direct instruction, delivery of adjusted learning programs, assessment and monitoring of progress).
  • Provide professional specialist advice, support and mentoring to classroom teachers
  • Provide professional specialist advice and assistance about students with additional learning needs to Campus teams.
  • Support campuses to deliver individual, standardised literacy and numeracy assessments for students and interpret results to make recommendations to Campus teams on future T & L supports and strategies.
  • Support campus teams to identify and deliver literacy and numeracy programs to identified students.
  • Work with individual students to assist them with organisation, revision, and assessments.
  • Train, coach, and mentor campus teams in all areas of NCCD processes and compliance, including assisting with NCCD moderation processes.
  • Use the Teacher Observation and coaching policy to coach, train, and mentor classroom teachers against the National Teaching Standards.
  • Work collaboratively with classroom teachers to support assessment for learning of their students with additional educational needs and identifying specific learning and support needs.
  • Collaborate with staff in the development of a differentiated curriculum as appropriate and suggesting or developing resources to support individual student needs.

About You

  • You already live by the values of Inclusion, Integrity and Innovation.
  • Mental health first aid certificate or training
  • Senior first aid certificate
  • Experience in an alternative or special education setting.
  • Experience working with disadvantaged and at-risk young people
  • Uses empathy to build trust and nurture lasting relationships
  • Demonstrates forward-thinking and awareness of the consequences of own actions
  • Proactively manages career and professional development in a mutually beneficial partnership with the Organisation.
  • Qualifications in Bachelor of Education, Diploma of Education or equivalent.
  • Accreditation with NESA
  • Working with Children Check and current National Criminal Police Record Check prior to the commencement of employment.
